questions
- What problems does abdominoplasty solve?
- Abdominoplasty is an extremely popular procedure among women after childbirth and people who have lost a significant amount of weight. It can also smooth out age-related changes in the abdominal area. During a tummy tuck, sagging skin is removed, muscle tissue is tightened (which is especially important for women with diastasis), and the appearance of stretch marks and scars is improved. The body achieves a defined waistline and a flat, toned belly. It’s important to know the difference between abdominoplasty and liposuction: liposuction focuses on reducing fat deposits. However, sometimes the two procedures can be combined.
- Is there any preoperative preparation required before abdominoplasty?
- During the first stage, you will have a consultation with a plastic surgeon, who will assess the scope of the upcoming procedure and outline realistic results. Abdominoplasty requires preliminary tests: blood work, an electrocardiogram, and an ultrasound scan of the abdominal organs — these are mandatory. Depending on your individual health condition, additional tests may also be prescribed. Patients are advised to stop smoking about a month before the scheduled surgery. Alcohol should be avoided for at least two weeks prior to abdominoplasty. It’s also recommended to discuss with your doctor whether you should discontinue certain medications, such as Ozempic or anticoagulants, if you are taking them. Try to follow the principles of healthy eating for at least a month before surgery, and limit weight training or other strenuous activities.
- Will abdominoplasty help get rid of fat?
- Depending on the type of abdominoplasty, it can help to partially reduce the layer of fat tissue on the belly, but for large volumes of subcutaneous fat, other correction tactics are usually preferred. Tummy tuck also cannot replace diet, especially in cases of visceral fat.
